DOCTOR WHO DOCTOR WHO DOCTOR WHO!
I could lie and pretend I’m purely thinking about writing this newsletter but we all know I’m really thinking about the Doctor Who finale. How WILL they tie up all those strands? And is it going to go the way I’ve been expecting for the past few seasons? (IE, the Doctor is being attacked by his own fictionality, hinted at by all the fourth wall breaks and fictionalisations in the past few seasons, from a canon musical to an episode where someone is reading a book called Doctor Who) Is the Rani behind that, or is there a god at work? Or someone else entirely? (I genuinely want your thoughts if you’re watching)
But for those of you who aren’t and actually subscribed to this to find out about my thoughts on writing and publishing, I will attempt to wrest my mind back onto the topic in hand. What is happening in the world of my books?
NEW BOOK
I have a new book out on June 5th - the paperback of my latest Shakespeare-themed picture book, The Tantrum. Bill the bear is putting on the Tempest with his friends, things go wrong, and he loses it in a dramatic fashion. This is the second in my Shakesbearean Tales series, following on from A Midsummer Night’s Drama.
Also, reply to this email if you’d like some colouring in sheets for The Tempest!
ATTENTION, EDUCATORS
I went on a podcast recently with the lovely Laura Henry-Allain. It’s here if you missed it
Listen on Spotify (or I’ve embedded the link below by accident, no clue how, looks snazzy though!)
Laura very kindly said I could share these teacher and educator resources she made about Loki after the podcast, in case you want to discuss Loki book four and the podcast with your class.
You could pair that with a Loki writing prompt - ask the kids to write their own Loki diary entry. They could base it on a typical day at their school or a school they know…but what if Loki was at school instead of them? What trouble would he cause? Would he lose or gain virtue points? What would the diary say to him? Would the giants attack? What does Thor do?
MEET ME
I had a brilliant time at the Hay festival recently. A quick reminder of where you can come and meet me at public events over the next month.
RETFORD on June 15th - book here
BARNES on June 22nd - book here
Until then, I’ll be starting on Loki book 6….. there WILL be giant snakes. Well, one at least.
