WITNESS VIOLENT VIKINGS! WIN A LOKI! MEET ME!
Morning all! Hope you’re enjoying the sun! I am a pasty vampire who hugs the shade but I appreciate the dappled light through trees.
It’s been a busy month drawing book five and doing events. Yesterday I drew Loki as a French revolutionary. No spoilers or context, sorry. I also got attacked by a viking this month. Read on to see pics…
A BOOK FIVE CHALLENGE
Have I shown you my cover for book 5 yet? If not…look at it! YELLOW! I’m very excited to share this book in september. Loki is a chaotic god but this is truly the most chaotic book yet. There will be giant cats, powerful spells and a magical cup that I covet myself.
A preorder is always a good deed - it helps bookshops know that something will be in demand and order a bunch. So, if you fancy gaining some virtue points… you know what to do…
Now, a challenge: can you work out what the runes on the cover say? For a little help, go here for a runic alphabet. I genuinely don’t remember what they say myself so if you would be so kind as to remind me… do email if you work it out!
WIN A LOKI!
I’m taking part in an auction of genre fiction creators, headed up by Lauren Beukes and Jeannette Ng, raising money for trans rights. If you’d like to win a personalised Loki, bid here! If you’re a school librarian, perhaps the PTA could fund it? Will draw Loki as anything you like, from horse!Loki to computer printer loki! UK only as I’ll need to post the art.
ATTACK OF THE VIKINGS
I had a glorious trip to York to do an event with York Archeology and the Yorvik Viking Centre. There was a trail around various spots in York including bookshops, where people could find runes and unlock a secret message from Loki. Though this one is perhaps a BIT easy to guess…
I also met a Viking. It was all very jolly at first….
But then he turned on me! The betrayal!
Holiday
One of the best things you can do for your creativity is stop working and absorb art. I went to France on holiday with my mum and drank in art. Here are some things I liked that may or may not be feeding into my work in various ways.
The first KNOWN drawing of Joan of Arc:
Cats bothering moons:
A tapestry of Smaug - I made one of these as a kid! This one’s better than mine was though:
At the tapestry exhibition above, I saw young gallery-goers’ reactions to the art. This one was very sweet.
This one was surely done by Loki?
Bonus picture of me and my mum in an artist’s studio. My mum gave me my love of art and drawing, so she’s partly to blame for Loki existing.
Oh and I spotted Loki in the wild in France.
MEET ME!
If you’d like to come and see me, here are a couple of upcoming festivals! Come along and join the Loki riot!
BRIGHTON - Last few tickets available for Sunday 11th May, 3.30pm at Brighton Dome Studio.
RETFORD - June 15th, 2pm, Grove Street Methodist Church. I’m doing an event in partnership with a wonderful children’s bookshop. Make sure you visit Wonderland Books if you’re coming to this one!
BARNES - I’m doing the Barnes festival on Sunday 22nd June at 4pm. Can’t wait! It’s my first time at the festival and I’ve heard great things! Also I was born in Hammersmith and went to school there so it feels a bit like coming home.
Now, I better go and put the finishing touches to book 5’s art… next stop, I’m drawing the comic that gives spoilers for book six. But how MANY spoilers? My rough rule of thumb is “would it go in the back blurb of the book itself” plus “will it DEFINITELY be in the book even after all the edits”. Especially given that I haven’t written that book yet…
Love and chaos!
